WELCOME…

Welcome to the Royal Canadian College of Organists, (RCCO), Edmonton Centre!

We are an Edmonton and area group of organist performers and appreciative listeners who love organs, organ music and organists.

As part of a nation-wide community ranging from inquisitive young minds to experienced professional organists with a passion for the organ and its music we seek to enrich the lives of others with our music, skills, and knowledge by promoting the instrument, its music, composers and performers.

Founded in 1959, RCCO Edmonton Centre is one of 28 RCCO centres based in cities coast to coast and offers a network of resources as well as educational and scholarship opportunities to local organists, students and organ enthusiasts through a variety of programs, events and concerts.

Scholarships – RCCO Edmonton provides scholarships for several levels of students, including pianists interested in beginning to play the organ. The scholarships provide funds for private or institutional studies.

Organic – The Organ in Concert, (formerly Sundays at Three) is RCCO Edmonton’s annual concert series. Premiered in 1980, it is the longest continuously running concert series in the RCCO. International, national and local artists have performed on the series which feature the city’s finest instruments.

This year, RCCO Edmonton presents the
Edmonton Organ Festival – June 10 – 12, 2016

ORGANiC SERIES

This year’s Stuart Davis Memorial Tribute Concert saw the Davis Concert Organ at its best under the masterful hands – and feet – of Canadian organist, Ken Cowan.

With a programme of Bach, Mozart, Karg-Elert, Vierne, and Canadian organist/composer Rachel Laurin, transcriptions of orchestral pieces of Wagner and Mendelssohn, and beautiful arrangement of the Traditional Irish tune Londonderry Air, Ken Cowan held his audience enthralled. An encore performance of Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries capped an already incredible evening.

RCCO Edmonton appreciates the support of the Davis Trust, the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts and CKUA that allows us to present concerts such as this.

  • “The Ken Cowan concert was one of the recent concerts I enjoyed the most. This young accomplished Canadian organist performed outstanding pieces from the classics to more current. His use of the Winspear Davis organ was both beautiful to watch and to hear. It was amazing to see him play for 2 hours, using no music at all. I look forward to his return to Edmonton soon.” – Darwin Pearson
